Dear Parents and Students,

Yesterday afternoon I met with members of the administrative team and we have come to the conclusion that we need to make the move to a hybrid instructional model.  No one is happy about this decision, but we need to make a change to ensure the safety of our staff and students, and to ensure we have adequate staffing available.  We also want to let parents and staff know as far in advance as possible, so everyone can make arrangements and plan accordingly.

The latest case numbers we have received from the Putnam County Health Department are not showing improvement.  We currently have forty-one students out due to contact tracing and two positive cases, and four staff members out with three positive cases.  We also have additional students and staff members who are waiting on test results, who are also self-quarantining.  The Health Department staff are currently in the process of tracing an additional 70 cases in the county.  I have attached a couple of maps and information from the PC Health Department.  As you will be able to see from those attachments, the three townships in Putnam County with the highest rates of infection are all completely or partially within the boundaries of the Ottawa Glandorf Local School District.

To this point there have not been any confirmed cases of transmission within the school setting, and we feel in order to maintain this we need to take further measures to spread students/staff out to further reduce the chances of a school transmission.

The number of students and staff being affected by contact tracing and/or positive cases have led us to the decision to implement our hybrid plan.  I have attached the infographic and calendar  we released to the public in August.  Every student will be in school at least two days per week, with some students having an opportunity to attend on Wednesday if needed.  We are also planning to have some special needs and at-risk students attend four days per week with an option for Wednesday in certain cases.  All of the Putnam County ESC unit students will attend school every day once we start our Hybrid model next Tuesday.  Also, Titan Tikes Preschool will also operate on their normal schedule starting next Tuesday.

We will be moving to our Hybrid instructional model on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 and we will operate under this model until at least Friday, November 13, with a decision on extending the Hybrid model to be made by Thursday, November 12.  After discussions with staff members and administrators yesterday, we are also planning to change our schedule for this Friday and next Monday.  Both days would be staff training and professional development days without students in attendance.  This would also keep both of our blocks of students on an even schedule the first week of Hybrid instruction.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we take another step into the unknown in 2020.

We will have additional information regarding bus routes, meals, and student schedule modifications to you as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Don Horstman
